Pacific Grove, CA – You've heard her voice for years on NPR, reporting from London and across the Middle East - Baghdad, Jerusalem, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, to name just a few places. In fact, NPR foreign correspondant Deborah Amos only spends about a hundred days at home each year. The rest of the time she's on the road.

Salinas, Calif. – Many Monterey County residents are still furious two days after the Board of Supervisors voted to not place the General Plan initiative on the June primary ballot. One of the initiative's leading backers, LandWatch Monterey County, has already filed suit, saying supervisors broke the law by not putting the measure on the ballot. So what legal ground is the county standing on? KAZU's Ben Adler talks with Monterey County counsel Charles McKee to find out.

Salinas, CA – The fierce battle over future Monterey County land use took a major twist Tuesday night. The Board of Supervisors voted 3-to-2 to not place the proposed General Plan initiative on the June ballot. Initiative supporters had gathered about 15-thousand signatures through the referendum process, and supervisors appeared to only have two choices - adopt the initiative as law, or let the entire county vote. Instead, they did neither. KAZU's Ben Adler reports.

Pebble Beach, CA – Most golf fans know by now that San Jose State grad Arron Oberholser won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am yesterday by five strokes. But off the golf course, the news was as good as the weather.

KAZU's Ben Adler talks with Ollie Nutt, tournament director and vice president of the Monterey Peninsula Foundation.

Monterey, CA – She could be the first ever female speaker of the house a year from now - if Democrats have a stronger-than-expected showing at the polls this November. But first, San Francisco congresswoman Nancy Pelosi will have to lead her party through a political minefield that has not been kind to Democrats in recent years - without the ability, as the minority party, to set the policy agenda.

Moss Landing, CA – About 75 miles southwest of Monterey -- thousands of feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean -- sits a huge underwater mountain. Scientists have not known very much about this inactive volcano, known as the Davidson Seamount, but they've recently learned a lot more.

Santa Cruz, CA – The city of Santa Cruz - long known for its liberal politics - is debating a sharp increase in the minimum wage. Activists are gathering signatures to put a measure on the November ballot that would raise the minimum wage $2.50 to $9.25 an hour - with future increases depending on the rate of inflation. As KAZU's Ben Adler reports, the initiative is causing a battle among the city's progressives.
