Community Justice Center at the Monterey College of Law

This workshop will review the basics of conservatorships and covers the broad spectrum of professionals that may be involved in obtaining a conservatorship. Local experts will provide an overview of their respective roles in obtaining a conservatorship, followed by a moderated question and answer period. The panel will include: Conservatorship Law Attorney, Lori Espinoza; Neuropsychologist, Dr. Patricia McKeon; Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Maureen McEachen of Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice; Sergeant Jake Pinkas of the Monterey Police Department; Adult Protective Services Supervisor, Travis Beye of Monterey County Adult Protective Services; and Allen Lasam, Deputy Public Guardian and Administrator of the Monterey County Public Guardian’s Office. Learning Objectives: •Learning what a conservatorship is and understanding who it is designed to protect •Identifying when a possible conservatorship is appropriate •Understanding key aspects in obtaining a conservatorship and the difference between Probate, Limited and LPS Conservatorship •Appreciating the challenges faced by patients, family members and professionals when obtaining a conservatorship •Understanding the roles and interactions of different professions when obtaining a conservatorship •Learning how a conservatorship can be part of an advance care planning conversation •Establishing a conservatorship 2 hours of CLE and CEU credits
