Waiting Game: Advocates Needed for Foster Children

Children in the foster care system are often appointed an advocate to help them through this incredibly difficult time in life.  It’s a relationship that can change lives.  But right now, an advocate shortage has many local foster care children stuck on a waitlist.

Secretary Panetta will be joined by Sarah Brady, chair of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence; Asa Hutchinson, former United States congressman and former task force director for the National Rifle Association; and, James Johnson, chair of the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence and Baltimore County Chief of Police.

Rescued Animals Often Get Stuck in Legal Limbo

Some of the 53 dogs and cats seized last month from an accused animal hoarder in Monterey are now up for adoption.  It’s unusual for these pets to be available so soon.  Accusations of abuse and neglect can often leave the animals stuck in a legal limbo for months.

Dam Removal Critical for Safety and Fish

The San Clemente Dam will be removed from the Carmel River.  Wednesday the Monterey County Planning Commission approved the project.  Removal starts this summer.  The dam was built nearly a hundred years ago but now represents a threat to both those living down river and to a specific species of fish.
