The durable Eton Radio is great for outdoor uses and would make a good addition to your earthquake preparation kit.  It includes a digital AM/FM tuner, NOAA weather band alert and built-in LED light.  It can be powered with a hand crank, AAA batteries, AC power and solar power.  The radio can charge your cell phone via USB cord.
