Salinas, CA – Have you ever had one supervisor tell you to do something, and another one say you can't? Welcome to the life of a Salinas Valley farmer. This is the time of year when the leafy greens industry starts to move from its winter home in Yuma, Arizona, back to the Salad Bowl of America. But last fall's E. coli outbreak in spinach has changed the playing field. Many believe feral pigs tracked the bacteria into a San Benito County field, and growers are adopting new food safety measures. Now, dueling government edicts have farmers' tempers on edge.
