San Juan Bautista, CA – The San Juan Batista company implicated in the recent national E. coli outbreak in spinach says its well-known organic brand Earthbound Farm has NOT been linked to the outbreak so far - and that conventional spinach, primarily sold under the Dole brand label, is linked instead. KAZU's Ben Adler has the latest.
UPDATE (5pm, 9/18/2006): An FDA spokeswoman says Earthbound Farm's statement that its organic spinach has (to date) not been linked is misleading, drawing a conclusion from an incomplete picture. The information is still coming in, and the FDA is not ready to rule out any spinach -- organic or conventional. Dole has still not returned a call for comment.
