Seaside, CA – Two weeks ago, while many Monterey Bay Area residents enjoyed the lengthy Labor Day weekend, Leon Panetta went to Iraq.

The former White House Chief of Staff and Democratic congressman is part of the Iraq Study Group, a panel that at Congress's request is taking a hard look at the war-torn country to try and figure out what, exactly, the U-S should do there. The panel's chairs are former Secretary of State James Baker, a Republican, and former Congressman and co-chairman of the 9/11 Commission Lee Hamilton, a Democrat; another panel member is former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

KAZU's Ben Adler spoke with Leon Panetta in his office at the Panetta Institute at California State University Monterey Bay.
