Plan Ahead: AMGEN Tour of California Stage 4 Starts in Monterey

Stage 4 of the Amgen Tour of California starts in downtown Monterey on Wednesday, March 14th.   Festivities begin at 10:00am with the race getting underway at 11:45am on Alvarado Street.   According to organizers, the best spots for viewing the start are along Alvarado and Franklin Streets, in front of the Monterey Sports Center, Window on the Bay along Del Monte Avenue and Lake El Estero Park.   (See map for route through the city.)

Be prepared for road closures in and around downtown Monterey.  Including,

Tunnel southbound (PG to Monterey) will close May 14th - 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Traffic will be detoured onto Pacific Street.

Franklin Street (Calle Principal to El Estero) will close May 14th - 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Del Monte Avenue southbound (El Estero to Hannon) will close May 14th - 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Alvarado Street (Pearl to Del Monte) will close for Farmer’s Market the day before race May 13th and will remain closed until 3 p.m. on race day.

Polk and Calle Principal (between Jefferson and Madison streets) will close May 14th at 9:00 a.m. 

Also expect delays on Highway 1 Southbound.  Cyclists will enter Highway 1 from Del Monte (see map) and will continue south to Cambria.
