Why should we care about land use in Monterey County?

Salinas, CA – On June 5th - or sooner, if you vote by absentee ballot - Monterey County voters will choose between two competing visions for land use for the next generation.

The ballot holds four measures: Measure A is the slow-growth community general plan initiative; Measures B and C deal with the county-written general plan approved by the board of supervisors; and Measure D asks voters to approve Butterfly Village - a controversial development project north of Salinas.

Between now and election day, KAZU will bring you several reports on the general plan battle. We start by asking this question: Why should we all care? KAZU's Rachael McDonald has the stories of two people who have a deep stake in the outcome.
