Locals Travel to the Inauguration

Watsonville, CA – Lots of warm clothing, a Latinos for Obama sign and a suitcase sit on Luis Alejo's bed like an incomplete puzzle. "I got my United Farm Worker flag, I want to take out in the crowd. The problem is going to be is trying to fit all these things in here. I've got these thick jackets to get in there. I got to try and not be over the weight limit," said Alejo.

The President's Call to Serve

Volunteers at Dorothy's Kitchen in Salinas serve breakfast.

Salinas, CA – It's 7:30 on Monday morning, and Jandi Dunlap is coordinating her volunteers at Dorothy's Kitchen in Salinas. They're serving a breakfast of French toast, oatmeal and fruit to several dozen homeless people. Dunlap says normally she has about six volunteers to work with, but today she has a twelve.

Aptos, CA – Terry Ballantyne normally spends her day negotiating real estate deals, but this morning, she's outside the Aptos La Selva Fire Station number 2 looking inside a collection bin. "So we've got some mittens, some gloves and a little handmade quilt for a child, more blankets and some comfortable pillows," said Ballantyne.
