Seaside, CA – Although the AMGEN Tour of California did not start as planned Sunday because of hazardous riding conditions in South Lake Tahoe, the race is still set to come to the Monterey Bay Area Thursday. Seaside is a new city for AMGEN. The gun goes off at 9:15 Thursday morning in front of Seaside City Hall, but the spectators and cyclists will start gathering much earlier. KAZU's Krista Almanzan interviewed Abe Lincoln, the chair the organizing committee for the Seaside Start.
Monterey, CA – Brad Damitz stands on Wharf Number two in Monterey. He's gazing at the wide sandy beach that arcs north toward Moss Landing. As an environmental policy specialist for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, he knows that each crashing wave is slowly eroding that beach. Scientists estimate that the coast is receding by 6 to 8 feet a year in some spots, especially during the harsh winter storms of El Nino years.
Moss Landing, CA – Friday is Earth Day. And in California Earth Day is more than just a day lightly noted on the calendar. Locally it inspires environmental action from beach clean-ups to collecting signatures for a plastic bag ban. KAZU's Krista Almanzan spoke with Rebecca Dmytryk of Wild Rescue in Moss Landing. The group is organizing a Worldwide Fishing Line Clean Up.
