Salinas, CA – Lettuce and spinach crops are in the ground now in California's Salinas Valley and before long, you'll see them as pre-washed bagged leafy greens at your local supermarket. But after last fall's big E. coli outbreak in spinach that sickened 200 people and killed three, the big question is - are those leafy greens safe to eat? Here, we hope, are some answers.

Monterey Bay Aquarium features river otters

Monterey, CA – The Monterey Bay Aquarium is opening a new exhibit this weekend. Aquarists are hoping people will not just be educated and entertained but also inspired to help conserve the habitat of some of the cutest creatures that swim. An aquarium staff member took KAZU's Rachael McDonald on a tour.

Three measures on land-use ballot

Salinas, CA – Voters will have a chance to weigh in on the Monterey County General Plan in June's special election. The fundamental choice is between the development -friendly General Plan update that Supervisors approved early this year known as GPU4. Or the alternative slow-growth Community General Plan Initiative. But, when you go to the polls in June you'll see 3 measures on the ballot, not two. That's because Supervisors didn't act on Tuesday.
