The local paper was put on the auction block once again earlier this month when The McClatchy Co. announced it would sell 12 of the 32 papers it had just agreed to acquire from Knight Ridder.

San Jose, CA – A federal judge has blocked the Monterey County General Plan Initiative from going on the June ballot. A Thursday ruling from U-S District Court Judge James Ware in San Jose says the initiative violated the federal Voting Rights Act, which requires that county voters receive all election materials in English and Spanish. Signature gatherers only circulated the text of the initiative in English. KAZU's Ben Adler talks with Salinas Californian reporter Dawn Withers.
